Presbyterian Night Shelter is known for serving the homeless in greatest need: those who have no other places to go.  Those who present the greatest challenge to our community are welcome here.  As the largest homeless shelter in Tarrant County, we serve approximately 1,000 men, women and children each night.

Job Summary

The prep cook is an entry level kitchen position. The prep cook’s role is to assist in the preparation of meals by chopping vegetables, cleaning, and putting together entrees among other duties. The prep cook is expected to periodically prepare meals as needed. The position provides the ideal opportunity to develop many other types of skills essential to becoming a chef/Cook. Such skills include proficiently being able to utilize a wide range of kitchen tools and utensils, include chopping knives and vegetable grinders. In addition to his or her food preparation duties, a prep cook may also be responsible for completing a large number of smaller tasks. Such tasks could include ensuring that leftover food is stored properly, performing kitchen maintenance tasks such as emptying the trash and washing dishes, and testing the temperature of food at specified intervals.

Rate of Pay

$9.00 per hour



Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently working all staff 24 Hours a week on-site (three 8 hours shifts) and four days at home.  The Prep Cook will be paid a full 32 hours while only physically working 24 hours. Please note these hours are temporary during the pandemic; once normal business resumes you will be required to work the full 32-hours per week.
